The Bamboo (Four Noble Ones)

This is part 3 of 4 from my Four Noble Ones series.

Symbolism plays a huge role in most if not all cultures. It is no different with the Chinese culture. Since the Song Dynasty, collectively known as the Four Gentlemen or the Four Noble Ones, are the Plum Blossom, the Orchid, the Bamboo, and the Chrysanthemum.

Depending on the sources, each of the four are said to represent the four seasons or distinct virtues.

The Bamboo represents the Summer. Its length is always linked to longevity and uprighteousness. When faced with strong winds, one would notice that the bamboo has the flexibility to sway in the most extreme angles but still does not break easily. It is due to this flexibility, it is seen that the bamboo represents tolerance and integrity.

The Orchid (Four Noble Ones)

This is part 2 of 4 from my Four Noble Ones series.

Depending on the sources, each of the four are said to represent the four seasons or distinct virtues.

The Orchid is often linked to Spring. Due to how fragile the Orchid is, it often grows delicately in a quiet environment. The orchid is seen as docile and its fragrance mild, it is easy to relate it humility, elegance, and purity.

Simon Paints Pigeons

I believe that in most places that you go around the world, you will surely see some kind of dove or pigeon. They usually move around in huge flocks in the urban jungle where they thrive on scraps and left over food. Sometimes, you might even find them in parks as well as around water fountains, piazzas, or squares.

I am sure there are many similarities that we share across different geographical areas.

Just like art, although we all have different styles and techniques, we can always find like-minded people to share the same appreciation for this creative expression.
